### **Technical Datasheet: Nickel 200 Forgings (UNS N02200)** #### **1. Product Overview** **Nickel 200 Forgings** (commercially known as **Alloy 200 Forgings**) are high-integrity components manufactured through the controlled deformation process of commercially pure nickel (99.6% minimum). The forging process enhances the mechanical properties of Nickel 200 by refining the grain structure and improving density, resulting in superior strength and reliability for critical applications. These forgings maintain the excellent corrosion resistance inherent to Nickel 200 while providing improved mechanical properties in specific orientations. Suitable for service from cryogenic temperatures up to approximately **315°C (600°F)**, Nickel 200 Forgings are ideal for components requiring high structural integrity in corrosive environments. **High-Temperature Advisory:** For continuous service above 315°C (600°F), **Nickel 201 Forgings (UNS N02201)** are recommended due to their lower carbon content, which prevents embrittlement from grain-boundary carbide formation. #### **2. Chemical Composition (% Weight)** Composition conforms to ASTM B564 for nickel alloy forgings. | Element | Content (%) (ASTM B564) | Content (%) (Typical) | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **Nickel (Ni)** | 99.0 min | ≥ 99.6 | | **Carbon (C)** | 0.15 max | 0.08 | | **Manganese (Mn)** | 0.35 max | 0.20 | | **Iron (Fe)** | 0.40 max | 0.20 | | **Copper (Cu)** | 0.25 max | 0.15 | | **Silicon (Si)** | 0.35 max | 0.15 | | **Sulfur (S)** | 0.01 max | 0.005 | #### **3. Physical Properties** | Property | Metric Unit | Imperial Unit | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **Density** | 8.89 g/cm³ | 0.321 lb/in³ | | **Melting Point** | 1435-1445 °C | 2615-2633 °F | | **Thermal Conductivity** (at 25°C) | 70 W/m·K | 485 BTU·in/hr·ft²·°F | | **Electrical Resistivity** | 0.095 µΩ·m | 36.5 µΩ·in | | **Modulus of Elasticity** | 186 GPa | 27 x 10⁶ psi | | **Thermal Expansion Coefficient** (20-100°C) | 13.3 µm/m·°C | 7.4 x 10⁻⁶ in/in·°F | | **Curie Temperature** | ~ 360 °C | ~ 680 °F | #### **4. International Standards for Forgings** Nickel 200 Forgings are supplied according to these international standards: | Standard Organization | Standard Number | Title / Scope | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **ASTM International** | **ASTM B564** | Standard Specification for Nickel Alloy Forgings | | **ASME** | **SB-564** | Nickel Alloy Forgings (for BPVC) | | **ASTM International** | **ASTM B366** | Factory-Made Wrought Nickel Alloy Fittings | | **SAE Aerospace** | **AMS 5674** | Nickel Alloy Forgings | | **UNS** | **N02200** | Unified Numbering System | | **EN (Europe)** | **EN 10222-5** | Steel Forgings for Pressure Purposes | #### **6. Key Characteristics & Advantages** * **Enhanced Mechanical Properties:** The forging process refines the grain structure, resulting in improved strength, toughness, and fatigue resistance compared to cast or wrought products. * **Superior Structural Integrity:** Forgings exhibit continuous grain flow patterns that follow the component contour, providing optimal stress distribution and resistance to impact loading. * **Excellent Corrosion Resistance:** Maintains the outstanding corrosion resistance of Nickel 200 in caustic environments, reducing acids, and various chemical media. * **Directional Strength Properties:** The forging process allows for alignment of the grain structure with primary stress directions, enhancing component reliability. * **Good Machinability:** Can be precision machined to close tolerances while maintaining corrosion resistance at machined surfaces. * **Weldability:** Readily welded using GTAW (TIG) and GMAW (MIG) processes with proper procedures and Nickel 200 filler metals. #### **7.
