### **Product Datasheet: Alloy X / Hastelloy® X Forgings (UNS N06002)** **Overview** **Alloy X**, commercially known as **Hastelloy® X**, is a nickel-chromium-iron-molybdenum superalloy specifically engineered for extreme high-temperature service. Designated as **UNS N06002**, this solid-solution strengthened nickel-based alloy offers exceptional oxidation resistance and high-temperature strength. The **forged** product form of Hastelloy X provides superior mechanical properties, enhanced grain structure, and improved directional strength compared to cast or wrought forms, making it ideal for the most demanding high-stress applications up to **1200°C (2200°F)**. --- ### **1. Chemical Composition** The chemical composition of Hastelloy X (UNS N06002) forgings conforms to the following specifications (balance is Nickel): | Element | Content (%) | |---------|-------------| | **Nickel (Ni)** | Balance | | **Chromium (Cr)** | 20.5 - 23.0 | | **Iron (Fe)** | 17.0 - 20.0 | | **Molybdenum (Mo)** | 8.0 - 10.0 | | **Cobalt (Co)** | 0.5 - 2.5 | | **Tungsten (W)** | 0.2 - 1.0 | | **Carbon (C)** | 0.05 - 0.15 | | **Manganese (Mn)** | ≤ 1.00 | | **Silicon (Si)** | ≤ 1.00 | | **Phosphorus (P)** | ≤ 0.040 | | **Sulfur (S)** | ≤ 0.030 | | **Boron (B)** | ≤ 0.010 | * **Functional Role of Key Elements:** * **Ni (Nickel)**: Forms the austenitic matrix, providing fundamental corrosion resistance and microstructural stability at high temperatures. * **Cr (Chromium)**: Enables formation of a protective chromium oxide layer (Cr₂O₃), delivering exceptional oxidation resistance. * **Mo & W (Molybdenum & Tungsten)**: Provide solid-solution strengthening, significantly enhancing high-temperature creep resistance and strength. * **C (Carbon)**: Contributes to elevated temperature strength through solid solution strengthening. --- ### **2. Physical Properties** Characteristic physical properties for Hastelloy X forgings: | Property | Metric Value | Imperial Value | |----------|--------------|----------------| | **Density** | 8.22 g/cm³ | 0.297 lb/in³ | | **Melting Point** | 1260 - 1355 °C | 2300 - 2475 °F | | **Specific Heat (20°C)** | 455 J/kg·K | 0.109 Btu/lb·°F | | **Thermal Conductivity (20°C)** | 11.9 W/m·K | 82.7 Btu·in/hr·ft²·°F | | **Mean Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (20-1000°C)** | 14.0 μm/m·°C | 7.8 x10⁻⁶ in/in·°F | | **Modulus of Elasticity** | 205 GPa | 29.7 x 10⁶ psi | --- ### **3.
