### **Product Introduction: Alloy 263 / Haynes 263 Bar (Round & Flat) / UNS N07263** **Alloy 263** (commercially known as **Haynes 263** and standardized as **UNS N07263**) is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-chromium-cobalt superalloy specifically engineered for high-temperature strength, excellent fabricability, and superior oxidation resistance. As a bar product (available in round bars and flat bars), it is the preferred raw material for machining and forging critical components that operate under extreme stress and temperature in aerospace and industrial applications. These bar forms are supplied in a solution-annealed condition, offering optimal machinability and formability before a final age-hardening heat treatment imparts maximum strength. This makes Alloy 263 bar an ideal choice for bolts, fasteners, turbine components, and other high-stress parts. --- ### **1. Chemical Composition** The composition is precisely balanced to create a strong, stable microstructure through gamma-prime [Ni₃(Al, Ti)] precipitation. | Element | Content (%) (Typical) | Role in the Alloy | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **Nickel (Ni)** | Balance | Austenitic matrix; provides base corrosion resistance and toughness. | | **Chromium (Cr)** | 19.0 - 21.0 | Imparts exceptional oxidation and hot corrosion resistance. | | **Cobalt (Co)** | 19.0 - 21.0 | Solid solution strengthener; boosts high-temperature strength. | | **Molybdenum (Mo)**| 5.6 - 6.1 | Provides solid solution strengthening, particularly at intermediate temperatures. | | **Titanium (Ti)** | 1.9 - 2.4 | Primary gamma-prime former (Ni₃Ti) for precipitation hardening. | | **Aluminum (Al)** | 0.3 - 0.6 | Gamma-prime former (Ni₃Al); aids oxidation resistance. | | **Carbon (C)** | 0.04 - 0.08 | Forms carbides for grain boundary strength and creep resistance. | | **Boron (B)** | 0.005 max | Enhances creep ductility and grain boundary strength. | | **Manganese (Mn)**| 0.60 max | Aids in deoxidation during melting. | | **Silicon (Si)** | 0.40 max | Aids in deoxidation during melting. | | **Iron (Fe)** | 0.70 max | Residual element. | | **Copper (Cu)** | 0.20 max | Residual element; kept low to prevent hot shortness. | --- ### **2. Physical Properties** | Property | Value / Condition | | :--- | :--- | | **Density** | 8.36 g/cm³ (0.302 lb/in³) | | **Melting Range** | 1330 - 1360 °C (2425 - 2480 °F) | | **Specific Heat** | 455 J/kg·K (0.109 Btu/lb·°F) @ 20°C | | **Thermal Conductivity**| 11.7 W/m·K (81.0 Btu·in/hr·ft²·°F) @ 20°C | | **Mean Coefficient of Thermal Expansion** | 12.6 μm/m·°C (20-100°C)
16.8 μm/m·°C (20-800°C) | | **Modulus of Elasticity (Tensile)** | 211 GPa (30.6 x 10⁶ psi) @ 20°C | --- ### **3. Mechanical Properties (Typical for Bar Product)** Bar products are typically heat-treated to achieve desired mechanical properties. The following are typical for age-hardened (Condition C) material. **Room Temperature Tensile Properties:** * **Ultimate Tensile Strength:** 950 - 1100 MPa (138 - 160 ksi) * **Yield Strength (0.2% Offset):** 550 - 700 MPa (80 - 102 ksi) * **Elongation:** 25 - 35% **High-Temperature Performance:** Alloy 263 bar retains excellent tensile, creep, and stress-rupture strength up to approximately **850°C (1560°F)**, making it suitable for highly stressed components. --- ### **4. Product Applications (Specific to Bar Forms)** Round and flat bars of Alloy 263 are primarily used for machining, forging, and fabricating high-integrity components. * **Aerospace & Jet Engines:** * Turbine shafts and discs * Engine mounts and linkages * High-strength bolts, studs, and fasteners * Afterburner structural components * Machined rings and casings * **Power Generation (Industrial Gas Turbines):** * Turbine blades and buckets (forged from bar) * Transition piece supports and brackets * High-temperature valve stems and components * **General Engineering:** * Fixtures and tooling for high-temperature furnaces * Components for testing and simulation equipment --- ### **5. International Standards for Bar Products** Alloy 263 bar is covered by several international standards that specify chemical, mechanical, and dimensional requirements. | Standard Type | Standard Number & Description | | :--- | :--- | | **Unified Numbering System (UNS)** | **UNS N07263** | | **Aerospace Material Specification (AMS)** | **AMS 5873**: Bar and Forgings (Solution Annealed)
