### **Waspaloy (UNS N07001) & Waspaloy Forgings - Technical Datasheet**
#### **1. Overview**
Waspaloy (UNS N07001) is a premium nickel-based, precipitation-hardenable superalloy specifically engineered for extreme service conditions. It maintains exceptional strength, creep resistance, and oxidation stability at temperatures up to 980°C (1800°F). **Waspaloy Forgings** represent the highest integrity product form of this alloy, offering superior mechanical properties, grain structure refinement, and structural reliability for the most demanding aerospace and industrial components.
#### **2. Chemical Composition**
The high-temperature capability of Waspaloy is achieved through a precise balance of solid-solution strengtheners and gamma-prime [γ'] forming elements.

#### **4. Mechanical Properties (Typical for Forgings - Solution Treated and Aged)**
Properties are typically superior in the forging direction due to grain flow alignment.
* **Tensile Strength:** ≥ 1240 MPa (180 ksi)
* **Yield Strength (0.2% Offset):** ≥ 795 MPa (115 ksi)
* **Elongation:** ≥ 15%
* **Reduction of Area:** ≥ 18%
* **Hardness:** ≥ 34 HRC
#### **5. Waspaloy Forgings**
**Waspaloy Forgings** are components formed through the controlled deformation of the alloy under high pressure and temperature, typically using hammer, press, or ring-rolling processes. This manufacturing method aligns the metallic grain structure along the contours of the part, creating continuous "grain flow." This results in enhanced mechanical properties—particularly fatigue life, toughness, and creep rupture strength—compared to components machined from bar stock.
**Key Features of Waspaloy Forgings:**
* **Superior Structural Integrity:** The forged grain flow eliminates porosity and refines the microstructure, providing greater reliability.
* **Enhanced Fatigue Life:** Excellent resistance to crack initiation under cyclic loading conditions.
* **Optimized Grain Structure:** Controlled deformation and heat treatment produce a uniform, fine-grained microstructure.
* **High Strength-to-Weight Ratio:** Allows for the design of robust yet lightweight components.
* **Directional Properties:** Mechanical properties are generally superior in the direction of primary metal flow.
#### **6. Product Applications**
Waspaloy Forgings are specified for the most critically stressed rotating and stationary components in high-temperature environments.
* **Aerospace & Jet Engines:**
* **Turbine Disks (Blisks and Bladed Disks)**
* **Compressor Disks** and **Shafts**
* **Turbine Blades** and **Vanes**
* **Spacers** and **High-Strength Shafts**
* **Industrial Gas Turbines (IGT):**
* **Turbine Wheels** and **Disks**
* **Rotor Components** and **Compressor Staging**
* **Oil & Gas:**
* **Downhole Tool** components for High-Temperature High-Pressure (HTHP) wells.
* **Valve Bodies** and **Heavy-Duty Fasteners**
* **Power Generation:**
* **Gas Turbine Rotor Components**
#### **7. International Standards**
Waspaloy Forgings are produced to meet stringent international standards that govern their quality, heat treatment, and performance.
**Aerospace (Primary Standards):**
* **AMS (Aerospace Material Specification):**
* **AMS 5708:** This is the primary specification for Waspaloy *Bar, Forgings, and Rings* in the Solution Treated and Aged condition. It defines the requirements for finished forgings.
* **AMS 5709:** Covers Waspaloy *Bar, Forgings, and Rings* in the Annealed condition, suitable for subsequent machining and heat treatment.
**ASTM / ASME:**
* **ASTM B637:** Standard Specification for Precipitation-Hardening Nickel Alloy Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock for High-Temperature Service.
* **ASME SB637:** Equivalent to ASTM B637 for ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code applications.
**European & Others:**
* **ISO 9724:** Nickel-cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy bars (provides a chemical reference applicable to forgings).
* **EN 10204:** Type 3.1/3.2 Inspection Certificates (standard for material certification in Europe).
