### **Product Introduction: Nickelvac® H-W Nickel-Based Superalloy (UNS N10004)** **Nickelvac H-W** is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium-tungsten superalloy designed for exceptional service in severely corrosive environments, particularly those involving hot contaminated mineral acids. It exhibits outstanding resistance to sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and hydrochloric acid across a wide range of concentrations and temperatures. While its primary classification is as a corrosion-resistant alloy, its ability to maintain structural integrity and resist attack under high thermal and mechanical stress qualifies it as a specialized superalloy for the most demanding industrial applications. This alloy is part of the Hastelloy®-type family and is known for its excellent fabricability and weldability. Its balanced composition provides a versatile profile, offering resistance to both reducing and mildly oxidizing conditions, making it a reliable choice for critical process equipment. --- #### **1. Chemical Composition (Weight %)** The typical chemical composition of Nickelvac H-W per AMS 5755 is as follows: | Element | Content (%) | Element | Content (%) | | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **Nickel (Ni)** | Balance | **Iron (Fe)** | 4.00 - 7.00 | | **Molybdenum (Mo)** | 23.0 - 26.0 | **Silicon (Si)** | ≤ 1.00 | | **Chromium (Cr)** | 4.50 - 7.00 | **Manganese (Mn)** | ≤ 1.00 | | **Cobalt (Co)** | ≤ 2.50 | **Carbon (C)** | ≤ 0.12 | | **Tungsten (W)** | 0.50 - 2.50 | **Sulfur (S)** | ≤ 0.03 | | **Vanadium (V)** | ≤ 0.60 | **Phosphorus (P)** | ≤ 0.04 | **Key Metallurgical Behavior:** Nickelvac H-W is a solid-solution strengthened alloy with a face-centered cubic (FCC) matrix. The high nickel and molybdenum content provides fundamental resistance to reducing acids and chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking. The addition of chromium enhances its performance in oxidizing media, while tungsten contributes to solid-solution strengthening. The controlled low carbon content minimizes sensitization during welding. --- #### **2. International Standards & Specifications** Nickelvac H-W is covered by key material and welding consumable specifications. **Primary Material Specifications:** * **UNS:** N10004 * **AMS:** **AMS 5755**: Bar, Forgings, and Rings; Corrosion and Heat-Resistant, Nickel Alloy 65Ni - 25Mo - 6Cr (H-W Alloy) Solution Annealed. **Welding Consumable Specifications:** * **ASME SFA-5.14 / AWS A5.14: ERNiMo-3** * This specification covers the requirements for welding electrodes (rods and wire) used for welding Nickelvac H-W to itself or to other compatible materials. The filler metal is designed to produce a weld deposit with a corrosion resistance matching the base metal. **Other Standards:** * **ASTM:** B574 (Standard Specification for Low-Carbon Nickel-Molybdenum-Chromium, Nickel-Molybdenum-Chromium-Tantalum, and Low-Carbon Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum-Tungsten Alloy Rod) * **ASME:** SB-574 (For pressure vessel and component construction) --- #### **5. Product Applications** Nickelvac H-W is predominantly used in aggressive chemical processing environments where other materials fail. * **Chemical Process Industry:** * Reactors and vessels for sulfuric, phosphoric, and hydrochloric acid production and handling. * Heat exchangers, condensers, and piping systems in acid service. * Columns and agitators exposed to mixed acids and acid salts. * Pickling and acid cleaning equipment. * **Pollution Control:** * Critical components in flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems, such as fan wheels, ducting, and scrubber internals. * **Metal Refining & Pickling:** * Equipment for metal recovery and acid regeneration plants. * Tanks and heating coils for pickling lines. * **Pharmaceutical and Fine Chemical Industries:** * Process equipment requiring high purity and resistance to aggressive chemical agents. --- #### **Summary of Key Advantages** * **Broad Corrosion Resistance:** Excellent resistance to a wide range of reducing acids (sulfuric, hydrochloric, phosphoric) and good performance in oxidizing conditions due to its balanced chromium content. * **Resistance to Localized Attack:** Good resistance to pitting and chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking. * **Excellent Weldability:** Can be readily welded using common techniques with the appropriate filler metal (ERNiMo-3) without post-weld heat treatment, producing a sound, corrosion-resistant weld. * **High-Temperature Stability:** Maintains mechanical properties and corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures in corrosive atmospheres. **Disclaimer:** The information provided here is for reference purposes. Specific properties and performance are dependent on the manufacturing process, heat treatment, and final product form. For critical applications in corrosive environments, always consult corrosion data charts and the official material specifications from the alloy producer.
