### **Product Datasheet: AL 200™ / Nickel 200 (UNS N02200)** **A Commercially Pure Wrought Nickel for Superior Corrosion Resistance and Electrical Applications** --- #### **1. Overview** **AL 200™**, more commonly known as **Nickel 200** or **Alloy 200**, is a commercially pure wrought nickel (99.6% minimum). It is characterized by its excellent **corrosion resistance**, high **thermal and electrical conductivity**, and good **magnetic and magnetostrictive properties**. As a solid-solution alloy, it offers useful mechanical properties over a wide temperature range and maintains good ductility and stability down to cryogenic temperatures. Its high corrosion resistance is particularly effective against caustic alkalis, making it a benchmark material for handling sodium hydroxide (caustic soda). It is generally recommended for service temperatures below 315°C (600°F) to avoid embrittlement caused by graphite formation. #### **2. Corrosion Resistance & Key Characteristics** * **Caustic Alkalis:** Outstanding resistance to all concentrations of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and potassium hydroxide (KOH) up to the boiling point. This is its primary application area. * **Neutral & Alkaline Salts:** Excellent resistance. * **Acids:** Good resistance to dilute hydrochloric and sulfuric acids. Excellent resistance to fluorine, chlorine, and their derivatives at room temperature. * **Gases:** Resists dry chlorine and hydrogen chloride at elevated temperatures. * **Food & Pharmaceutical:** Non-toxic and non-contaminating, making it suitable for food processing. #### **6. Product Applications** Nickel 200 is used across a wide range of industries due to its unique combination of properties: * **Chemical Processing:** Caustic soda (NaOH) evaporators, reaction vessels, distillation towers, and transfer piping for halogen and fluorine-based chemicals. * **Food & Synthetic Fiber Processing:** Equipment where product purity is critical. * **Electronics & Aerospace:** Magnetostrictive devices, radar components, and electron tubes. * **Electrical Engineering:** Anodes, cathodes, and other components requiring high electrical and thermal conductivity. * **Marine & Offshore:** Boat shafting and propeller blades for fishing vessels. #### **7. Packing of Standard Packing: Typical bulk packaging includes palletized plastic 5 gallon/25 kg. pails, fiber and steel drums to 1 ton super sacks in full container (FCL) or truck load (T/L) quantities. Research and sample quantities and hygroscopic, oxidizing or other air sensitive materials may be packaged under argon or vacuum.
