### **Technical Datasheet: Nickel 201 Bar (Round & Flat) UNS N02201** #### **1. Product Overview** **Nickel 201 Bar** (commercially known as **Alloy 201 Bar**) is a wrought product form supplied as round bars and flat bars, manufactured from low-carbon commercially pure nickel. This grade is specifically designed with a maximum carbon content of 0.02% to prevent grain-boundary carbide precipitation, making it the preferred material for applications involving continuous service temperatures above **315°C (600°F)**. Nickel 201 Round Bar and Flat Bar maintain all the advantageous properties of pure nickel – including exceptional corrosion resistance, high thermal and electrical conductivity, and good mechanical properties – while offering superior performance and structural integrity in high-temperature environments. These product forms are ideal for machining, forging, and fabricating components for elevated temperature service. #### **2. Chemical Composition (% Weight)** The key distinction from Nickel 200 is the strictly controlled low carbon content. | Element | Content (%) (ASTM B160) | Content (%) (Typical) | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **Nickel (Ni)** | 99.0 min | ≥ 99.6 | | **Carbon (C)** | **0.02 max** | **0.01** | | **Manganese (Mn)** | 0.35 max | 0.20 | | **Iron (Fe)** | 0.40 max | 0.20 | | **Copper (Cu)** | 0.25 max | 0.15 | | **Silicon (Si)** | 0.35 max | 0.15 | | **Sulfur (S)** | 0.01 max | 0.005 | #### **3. Physical Properties** | Property | Metric Unit | Imperial Unit | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **Density** | 8.89 g/cm³ | 0.321 lb/in³ | | **Melting Point** | 1435-1445 °C | 2615-2633 °F | | **Thermal Conductivity** (at 25°C) | 70 W/m·K | 485 BTU·in/hr·ft²·°F | | **Electrical Resistivity** | 0.095 µΩ·m | 36.5 µΩ·in | | **Modulus of Elasticity** | 186 GPa | 27 x 10⁶ psi | | **Thermal Expansion Coefficient** (20-100°C) | 13.3 µm/m·°C | 7.4 x 10⁻⁶ in/in·°F | | **Curie Temperature** | ~ 360 °C | ~ 680 °F | #### **4. Mechanical Properties (Typical for Bar)** **Annealed Condition:** * **Tensile Strength:** 380 - 480 MPa (55 - 70 ksi) * **Yield Strength (0.2% Offset):** 105 - 195 MPa (15 - 28 ksi) * **Elongation (in 2 inches / 50mm):** 45 - 55% **High-Temperature Mechanical Properties (at 500°C/932°F):** * **Tensile Strength:** ~ 250 MPa (36 ksi) * **Yield Strength:** ~ 100 MPa (15 ksi) * **Creep Rupture Strength:** Excellent long-term performance #### **5. International Standards for Bar** Nickel 201 Round Bar and Flat Bar are supplied according to these international standards: | Standard Organization | Standard Number | Title / Scope | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **ASTM International** | **ASTM B160** | Standard Specification for Nickel Rod and Bar | | **ASME** | **SB-160** | Nickel Rod and Bar (for ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code) | | **SAE Aerospace** | **AMS 5556** | Bar, Nickel Alloy, Corrosion and Heat-Resistant | | **UNS** | **N02201** | Unified Numbering System | | **EN (Europe)** | **EN 10095** | Ni 99.2 (Low Carbon) | #### **6. Key Characteristics & Advantages** * **Excellent High-Temperature Stability:** Superior resistance to embrittlement at temperatures above 315°C (600°F) due to controlled carbon content * **Outstanding Corrosion Resistance:** Excellent performance in caustic alkalis, reducing environments, and high-temperature chemical processes * **Superior Machinability:** Good machining characteristics (approximately 30% relative to free-cutting brass) in both round and flat bar forms * **High Thermal Conductivity:** Efficient heat transfer capability maintained at elevated temperatures * **Excellent Fabricability:** Can be readily welded, formed, and forged using standard techniques * **Consistent Properties:** Uniform mechanical and physical properties throughout the bar cross-section #### **7. Temperature Capability** * **Maximum Recommended Continuous Service:** **600°C (1112°F)** * **Intermittent Service:** Up to 815°C (1500°F) for short durations * **Cryogenic Service:** Maintains excellent properties down to -196°C (-321°F) #### **8.
